Girls only bike ride
Circular route starting and finishing at the War Memorial
Local fitness guru and keen cyclist Patricia Coward will be taking a group of female riders on a local ride setting off at 6pm. Please just turn up at the War Memorial in time, ready to go.
All riders MUST be wearing a helmet to participate and it would be adviseable that if you don't ride regularly to have your bike checked so that you reduce the chances of any issues en-route. Due to the distance it would also be best to have a snack and plenty of fluids with you to keep energy levels up throughout.
This is a great opportunity for girls and women from the local area to get out on their bikes and join the increasing number of female riders in Great Britain today. Who knows, if you don't already cycle regularly this might be just the thing to inspire you to get started, and what better way than in a social environment like this. Huntly Bike Week need not be the only time you ride like this, in fact we at Huntly Bike Week towers would be over the moon if this ride sparked off something more regular in and around the town.
No doubt most of you will know the names by now of the Great British cycling team female members such as Laura Trott and Victoria Pendleton from our medal winning team at last years Olympic Games. They are in fact only a small part of the ever increasing number of female riders in the country, not just competitively but for general fitness, and wellbeing as well as plain old good fun.
2013 is the year that the Government along with cycling's Governing Body British Cycling, and many other groups try to get over 1 million women cycling!
